Korean Community Services (KCS) serves a wide range of immigrant communities in New York City, with a primary focus on Korean and Asian American populations; they are currently working to extend their reach to Latino, African American, and other immigrant groups. KCS provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services that address critical needs in healthcare, education, and social services. Programs include senior services such as meal distribution and wellness activities, English language and citizenship classes, mental health counseling, and benefits enrollment assistance, including SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), healthcare, and transportation programs like Fair Fares. KCS is deeply committed to reducing health disparities and empowering vulnerable populations to access the resources they need for a better quality of life.
As a community-based organization and member of WholeYouNYC covering Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn, KCS’ capacity to bring access to healthcare and enhanced services to New York City has expanded. KCS has reached out to more than 1,500 clients through a wide range of in-person services and interactions with community members in heavy-traffic areas such as subways, libraries, food pantries, grocery stores, and farmers markets. KCS is planning community events to connect individuals to Medicaid-covered services in transportation, nutrition, and housing.
The 1115 Medicaid Waiver provides critical flexibility in how Medicaid funds are used, allowing for innovative approaches to addressing health disparities and social determinants of health. With the support of WholeYouNYC, KCS is committed to bridging the gap between healthcare and social services and advancing community health and well-being for Medicaid members.
